Michael Spicer is a comedy writer, actor, director and the creator of the internet sensation The Room Next Door. His work on YouTube and Twitter has resulted in international media attention, with his secret political adviser making appearances on The Mash Report in the UK and The Late Late Show in the US. The story of Spicer’s rise to fame is now a BBC Radio 4 series, entitled Before Next Door. Despite being labelled an overnight success, Michael Spicer has been producing and submitting comedy sketches and short films since before the internet was invented. He has a garage full of rejected VHS tapes to prove this.

Michael Spicer, author of The Secret Political Adviser, talks to the Guardian about becoming a sudden comedy star, and satire in an age without subtlety.
“Spicer represents the new vanguard of comedians satirising the political quagmire we’ve become embroiled in since the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump. We are living in the age of political gaffes: there are so many of them, and they come so thick and fast, that what would once have led the news agenda for 24 hours gets forgotten in minutes.”
