The peerless Rebecca Solnit, author of Hope in the Dark and A Field Guide to Getting Lost, has been awarded a Windham-Campbell Prize: $165,000 intended to free the recipients to focus on their writing. She responded to the news by saying: “after the sheer amazement settled, I felt so grateful to have this encouragement and support to do what I’ve wanted to do all my life: just write books.”
