We’re delighted that Murmur by Will Eaves has been awarded the Wellcome Book Prize for 2019.
The Wellcome Book Prize is now in its 10th year, and is open to either fiction or fiction that deals in some way with an aspect of medicine, health or illness, with the winning author receiving £30,000. It was an incredibly strong shortlist that Murmur was up against (including our own Amateur by Thomas Page McBee) and it’s wonderful to see such a great book so well celebrated.
Murmur is a fictionalised account of the tragic final months in the life of Alan Turing, as he was compelled to undergo chemical castration as a punishment for his homosexuality. It has already been shortlisted for both the Goldsmiths, James Tait Black and Folio prizes and won the Republic of Consciousness award. Congratulations to Will – it’s a novel we’re hugely proud to be publishing.
