In the Pines – Five Murder Ballads is our first graphic novel

In February we are going to be publishing our first graphic novel, and we couldn’t be more excited. (It’s a good ’un!) In the Pines is an eerie, stunningly illustrated retelling by Erik Kriek of five murder ballads, that grisly staple of the America songwriting tradition.

The result feels somewhere between the excellent work of Emily Carroll and the music of Nick Cave, Steve Earle and Gillian Welch: five dark, compelling tales of murder and not much redemption – bloody, wistful and strange. It’s already been scooping up awards and acclaim in Erik’s native Netherlands, and deservedly so. A couple of pages so you can see just how good this book looks:
